ShiloVix, Dec.2019
Hello there! My name is Shilo Vix and I am an Interior Architecture student at San Diego State University. As an aspiring designer, I am passionate about creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and environmentally conscious.
My interests extend beyond just design, as I am also deeply interested in fine art and how it can be incorporated into interior spaces to enhance the overall experience. I am also intrigued by the potential of immersive media to transform the way we interact with and experience our surroundings.
Lastly, I believe that healing plays an important role in design and that spaces can be designed in a way that promotes well-being and enhances the healing process. Through my work, I aim to explore how all of these elements can be woven together to create truly transformative spaces.

The San Ysidro Border Wall Redesign
The sides of the wall that face the Pacific have been flattened to create a bridge that spans 300 feet in length and 100 feet in width, providing ample space for communal gatherings with our neighbors. Beneath the bridge, there is a submerged viewing area that allows visitors to observe marine life and to reflect on the challenges faced by those who have attempted to navigate these very waters.
Ocean-spanning bridge,
Nations meet upon this wall,
Shadowed unity.
Concept Creation
The mountain depicted in this wall design serves as a powerful symbol for the experience of migration. Mountains are often seen as a metaphor for the challenges and obstacles that individuals face on their journeys. In this design, the mountain represents the difficulties and hardships that migrants endure as they navigate the terrain of Mexico's mountain ranges and attempt to reach their destination in the US.
Moreover, the mountain serves as a visual reminder of the perseverance and resilience of those who undertake this challenging journey. It represents the strength and determination required to overcome the many obstacles and challenges that arise during migration.
Through the use of the mountain as a symbol, this wall design aims to evoke empathy and understanding towards the experiences of migrants. It encourages viewers to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of those who undertake this difficult journey, and to recognize the importance of supporting and advocating for the rights of migrants.

The use of glass as a metaphor in this wall design provides a visual representation of the challenges and issues surrounding migration in the US. Glass is a transparent material that allows us to see through it and observe what is on the other side. Similarly, the design's use of colored glass represents the transparency needed to address the challenges faced by migrants in the US.
By incorporating glass into the design, the viewer is invited to look beyond the surface level and delve deeper into the complexities of migration issues. The design encourages contemplation of the struggles and injustices that migrants face, and the hope and aspirations that drive them to persevere despite the obstacles. Through this metaphor, the wall design aims to foster understanding and empathy towards the experiences of migrants and the need for transparency in addressing migration issues.

This multi-use building boasts large, open floor spaces for large gallery receptions, charity events, art swaps, and live music. Around each corner, another featured artist experimental workspace and another area of the gallery to be mesmerized by. The 45,000 sq ft that was home to historic Cramer's Bakery till 2006 and 6 years later, renewed for new purpose by Isabel Dutra and James Brown for the purpose of celebrating creativity and expression. This space is ripe with energy from it's long history as a bread bakery.. you can almost still smell the Butter Cream bread that Cramer's was well known for. Located on the edge of Barrio Logan, in San Diego, California, well known for Chicano Park's larger than life murals, Low-rider car clubs, art-walks, and nightlife.

Biophilic Design
Designing for human-environement interaction and appreciation.
Biophilic Design- a subset of Biophilia, the human instinct to connect with nature and living beings, caters to the need of modern life without sacrificing the health benefits that nature provides. This study will look at the characteristics of Biophilic design and examples to how they can be implemented into all living and working spaces.
This type of design is not new, and in fact just takes us back to a time when we did not rely on light bulbs or ceiling fans. By Bluring the line between architecture and nature, we promote a renewed relationship with our environment, our responsibilities to it, allowing it and ourselves to heal.

Water: River running through basement cavern, small pool with waterfall flowing into river.
Entree through tunnel at base of mountain
Garden wall: will render upstairs

Plan- Revise the loft into a full story and omit waterfall.
Form that invokes power through height, and Natural Materials
Concept development #3
Pool has been expanded from a loft to a center piece of the upper-floor. The Garden wall is developed in two ways on the East and West Walls.
2 different granite types are chosen, one that is more teal and brown and the other a polished white marble.
Revised my original drawings to accommodate the spiral staircase tower in Southwest corner. Pulled the turquoise and brown from the granite and included those colors throughout design.
2nd Floor landing wraps around the pool and offers a unique view of the pool interior. Lit by diffused light through pool, candles and cuts in the walls and floors.
Basement has the river running through it at a diagonal, Round steps are suspended just above the water level instead of a bridge.
At this stage, what is left is refining, fixing broken geometry, building the tunnel and entrance at base of mountain, and developing more of the landscape.
Pulls of granite not excavated scatter the basement walls.
Form that invokes power through height, and material. A day's journey from civilization. Built from the mountain.

We as humans are constantly bombarded with imagery everywhere we go and often can not escape to somewhere that promotes tranquility nor do we have the time to have a conversation with a stranger unless motivated by circumstance. By utilizing VR imagery to promote a relaxing headspace and stranger interaction to build global connections, It is my hope that we can heal the divide across nations, one hug at a time.
Please join us for a Heartfelt, Uplifting Gift. We hope your experience at the HUG Dome promotes a peaceful energy for you to carry with you and a lasting desire for deeper connections.

Plan
Final Project "Peace". Art 250 Contemporary Interior.Shilo Vix Instructor: Professor Yin Yu Fall 2022
Part 1: Head up the ramp straight into the large center dome where inside, you will find seating to experience a relaxing, meditative VR experience that encourages each participant to take deep breaths while imagery is projected 360 degrees, enveloping them in a field covered in cherry blossoms, walking through an enchanting forest, and other uplifting imagery taking the guests on a journey of peaceful guided meditation through imagery.
Part 2: Once you finish the VR experience, you are welcome to exit onto the exterior wrap-around deck, following it to an available station. Once you have found an available station, you will have the opportunity to connect through our haptic infused video conferencing software on a screen with a fellow participant of a HUG sister location around the world who just went through the same experience. You will be able to select your language(s) or use live translation subtitles while connected. When connected with the other participant(s), you will have the opportunity to follow prompted questions to get to know one another, share what you both felt about the experience as well as something you both love about your own culture/country, etc. After about 10 min, you will have a screen prompting you to offer/accept or deny a hug through a haptic tech vest that simulates a human hug. You will see prompts showing you how. Put on your vest and feel just that much closer to your new connection. Once you finish, you can make your way to the exit where you can pick up a cloth bracelet with uplifting words and/or a print of some of the imagery used in Part 1.
Once finished with your conversation, you will be welcome to record a short 30-second video to share your favorite part of the whole experience to be used in promotion in exchange for a discount to return with a friend.
Within a day or two, both you and your HUG pair will receive an email offering to connect the two through a web page that asks for information you want to share and the option to read the information shared by your new friend.
We hope the experience leads us all to appreciate the little things, find some inner peace, and lastly, new vigor for your appreciation of others.

A tribute to Ukraine, Ceramic Bowl
An Anti-War Narrative Piece following the first month of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine's pottery
The Ukrainian identity is deeply tied to their cultural art, which was and has been deliberately destroyed by Russian troops as a direct attack on their unique identity, culture, and pride.
My aim is to bring awareness to the people and their lives of those affected by the direct result of the Russian Invasion and bring awareness in this unexpected form to those here in the States.
The side panels of the bowl depict the story of a family and the impact of the war on their lives.
2. The son/brother is seen saying goodbye through the window of a train before his family departs for safety. Able-bodied men were required to stay and fight, and many did so with pride for their country.
3. Irene, a mother, survived constant shelling and an airstrike to give birth by candlelight in another building, only for her son to die from the trauma of the Russian bombardment. Irene also succumbed to her injuries and a broken heart later the same day.
4. Podilsky apartment building after repeatedly shelled by Russian Troops March 19th 2022.
The Interior of the bowl represents
